Travel tales

Memories – when we were okay to roam…

Mount Abu-the gem of Rajasthan (down memory lane with C Cordeiro)

Tales of times spent schooling in Mount Abu, treks through the natural wonders of the Aravalli range, the flora & fauna, Plummy & Sargent Plummy, Toad rock….

Enthralled by these, a group of us set off from Mumbai to follow in the steps of those who had ventured before us.

Those were the days of a train change at Ahmedabad (broad gauge to meter gauge), followed by a bumpy bus ride from Abu road up the ghats to Mt Abu.

We had aspiring zoologists and botanists in our group. Long treks through the hills, stopping ever so often to identify a new insect specimen or debate over which family a particular shrub belonged to.

More trekking, a quick road trip over to Dilwara temples (Jain temples dated between the 11th and 13th century) and back to exploring all that nature had in store for us. Late evenings in the town…boating on Nakki lake and sampling the local cuisine.

Soon, it was time to head back home…exams, new experiences, a career beckoned and more of the grind. All we now have are the memories… those were indeed the days when we could just roam!!!
